Abstract:
Temple Heights StationPO Box 53453Washington DC 20009-9998202-388-7900www.seniorhealthresources.org Senior Health Resources (SHR), founded in 1999, is one of those few agencies whose mission is to provide health-related services to the aging LGBT community. SHR is a nonprofit organization that focuses on individuals over the age of 40, and their community of family and friends who reside in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. The organization's philosophy is that "aging" does not start at 60 or 65 years of age--rather, it evolves throughout one's mid-life. By including LGBT persons 40 years and older, SHR highlights the need to invest in caring for our own seniors as a true community. Currently, SHR provides consumer and provider education and forums. Additionally, SHR has a grant in collaboration with Howard University to create the first local GLBT Resource Guide of Aging Services. 305 Seventh Avenue, 16th FloorNew York, NY 10001212-741-2247www.sageusa.org SAGE, or Senior Action in a Gay Environment, was founded in 1977 and is the nation's oldest and largest social service and advocacy organization dedicated to senior citizens.
