Abstract:

This section presents an overview of several motion pictures and musicals about gays, launched from November to December in 2005 in the U.S. The Stone Family, led by Craig T. Nelson and Diane Keaton, is a model of New England liberal acceptance, they evidently think nothing of inviting their gay son's African American boyfriend to their home for the holidays. In Memoirs of a Geisha, director Rob Marshall brings his sense of visual pageantry to this epic story of a young Japanese girl trained to become a geisha in pre-World War II Japan. Rent is a Pulitzer- and Tony-winning Broadway musical about AIDS, progressive politics, bohemian culture, drag queens and lesbians.
