The article examines the Gender Recognition Act 2004 of Great Britain. The Act will allow transgender people to have a new birth certificate and to get married. In writing the Act, many things had to be considered: meet the requirements of the European Court of Human Rights, be acceptable to as many transgender people as possible, and make it through the parliamentary process without any conflict with current or future legislation.
