Abstract:

The article reports on the return of She-Ra, a fierce superhero character from the 1980s, to the popular culture landscape on July 18, 2006 in the first of four She-Ra: Princess of Power digital video discs from BCI. It is a welcome resurgence for the many Generation X and Y queers who adored and continue to exalt her. Lesbian Gayy Bisexual and Transgender people have embraced and celebrated dozens of divas over the years, but only one princess of power, She-Ra. Among those fans is folksinger Phranc. She-Ra was mentioned in one of Phranc's concert openers, which typically name-dropped hot topics, during the princess's 1980s heyday.
