Abstract:

The article presents an interview with Oscar winner Mercedes Ruehl who takes the lead role in Lifetime Network's biopic, A Girl Like Me: The Gwen Araujo Story. In order to prepare for her role as the mother of the murdered transgender teen, Ruehl did a research into the transgender phenomenon. She cited some of the most intense scenes to shoot with actor J. D. Prado. Ruehl views the made-for-television film as a timely reminder for the middle-class audiences about the complex condition of transgender people.
