This article provides information on Rainbow Build, a coalition of more than 35 gay and allied organizations that has joined forces with Habitat for Humanity to build a house for a local needy family. Fighting discrimination means showing the community that one in an important part of the local fabric, helping to make things better for everyone. This led Kent Burbank, executive director of Wingspan, a GLBT community center in Tucson, to form Rainbow Build. When finished in October 2005, the Rainbow Build house will be home to elderly couple Rogelio and Fedora Fischer Rubio and their adult hearing-impaired daughter, who have been living in a guesthouse with no running water. The volunteer response from the local gay community has been amazing, said Ann Jones, Rainbow Build's transgender crew chief.
