content for "Universities with Trans Courses or Trans Research" page

*** I don't mean to send this out as an announcement. I hoped you could add it to the "Universities with Trans Courses or Trans Research" page on this site, I just didn't know how to do that.

At California State University, Los Angeles, a graduate seminar which combined Phil 413 "Issues in Feminist Philosophy" and Phil 531 "Theorizing Genders and Sexualities" was created. It was Phil 413/531 "Introduction to Trans Feminism: Transgender Studies meets Feminist Theory". The course was taught by Talia Mae Bettcher, PhD. This course is an introduction to the interdisciplinary field of transgender studies from a trans feminist perspective.

Some of the questions we examine include: Who are trans people and what do they want? What are transgender studies and how do they differ from other forms of scholarship? What is transphobia? How should transphobic violence be theorized? How is trans-resistance possible? What are the relationships among trans politics and feminist and antiracist politics? What are the tensions? What are the points of overlap? How is a distinctively antiracist transfeminism possible?
