Changes in both the policies and practices of child welfare agencies is needed in resolving the child welfare situations for LGBT children, youth and families. These changes must be based on an international and deliberate recognition of the uniqueness of one's sexual orientation, so that approaches can enhance family functioning and the well-being of children and youth as well as to avoid separation and placement.
